The Bondfield family’s 26th Palgrove Annual on-property “Performance on paper backed by substance in the paddock” sale certainly lived up to expectations after achieving a total clearance of their sale catalogue. Prices rose to a top of $20,000 and averaged $5774 for the 95 Charolais bulls, with the 22 yearling Charolais Composite bulls hitting the mark to average $4114. As in previous years, there was a total clearance of all bulls.
Strong interstate competition, principally from the eastern states, with buyers from Northern Territory and West Australia registered online through AuctionsPlus provided excellent competition which was underpinned by solid local support.
David Bondfield was extremely pleased with his sale’s outcome particularly with the support shown by new and return clients. “Many of the bulls are going into good operations and have been sent to as far north as Charters Towers, west to McKinlay and south to central Victoria”.
Central Queensland breeders Alan, Neil and Janet Goodland, Clare Charolais stud, Theodore were determined to acquire their first Palgrove sire by securing the $20,000 top money bull, Palgrove Damn Awesome.
Palgrove Damn Awesome, an exceptional two-year-old son of Palgrove Awesome RF weighed in at 1050kgs and was a deep-sided youngster with plenty of capacity and a big, wide hindquarter.
“This bull has got everything - great all-round performance, balance, tremendous softness and a lovely loose pliable skin,” said Alan Goodland.
“We also liked his sire (Palgrove Awesome) and the pedigree on his dam side is one of Palgrove’s best performing female lines and he is so complete in every department,” Mr Goodland added.
Long standing clients Len and Sue Bode and family, Percol Plains, McKinlay selected 10 quality Charolais bulls for a $6800 average. Mr Bode has always selected Palgrove bulls with performance and constitution capable of handling the “northern country”.
The Bode family paid up to $11,000 for Palgrove Dot Com, the 2010 Sydney Royal Reserve Senior Champion, a bull with natural doing ability; sire’s presence and excellent skin type.
Stanbroke Pastoral’s Jack Morris, Fort Constantine, Cloncurry bought six Charolais/Shorthorn hybrid bulls for a $4333 average paying up to $5000 for a performance son of Platinum Voodoo, boasting the highest adjusted weaning weight of the draft.
