Charolais Palgrove has the largest registered herd of Charolais cattle in Australia, with over 1300 registered Charolais females plus an ET program producing approximately 300 embryo calves a year. The herd mix produces around 45% polled, 45% horned and a small percentage of full French cow families. These moderate framed, well adapted Australian bred females can handle the most extreme environments. Charolais bulls are sold from Tasmania to the Territory and we pride ourselves on producing sires that are easy fleshing and can produce sufficient fat cover in their progeny off grass or in the feedlot. We breed a Charolais type that consistently enables producers to meet high percentage compliance rates at slaughter for both domestic and export markets. |

Charbray Palgrove produces approximately 280 Charbray bulls a year – with the majority of these 50/50 or 75/25 Charolais/Brahman genetic combinations. Our bulls are grown out at our Drillham and Emerald properties, where they can be inspected at any time. The Palgrove Charbray programme has seen bulls sold across northern Australia and down the east coast of Qld and NSW. |

Charolais Composites We have over 400 Angus and Shorthorn females which are mated to selected Charolais bulls in our Composite breeding programme. This has enabled us to develop an extensive progeny test programme across a range of sires. The best performing progeny from each of these cross breeding programmes are retained as sale bulls. The Charolais/Angus composites enable clients with Angus breeding herds to sell progeny to feedlots requiring a minimum 75% Angus content. The progeny by these bulls have an injection of hybrid vigour, but retain the black or dark grey hide. The Charolais/Angus bulls are also sold to northern Bos Indicus breeding herds to produce a three way cross breeding programme without the need for separate management groups. These dark grey to silver bulls are early maturing and extremely hardy in northern environments. The Charolais/Shorthorn composites offers an alternate marketing option for producers looking to add hybrid vigour over both British breed or Bos Indicus females. Feedlots and backgrounders love the progeny by these composites, as they offer additional ‘free lunch’ weight gain. |

Palgrove has been breeding Angus and Brangus bulls for a number of years and is now producing a more adapted Angus-based breed combination for northern Australia. These are specifically designed high Angus content Brangus bulls (with a maximum 12.5% Brahman infusion) that we call 'Palgrove Ultrablack'. This combination is utilised extensively in Texas and many of the southern states of the USA as well as Mexico and South America. They resemble a 'tropical Angus' and have been described as bulls with the 'meat quality of Angus in a tolerant heat package'. Australia’s northern producers wanting to introduce Angus genetics but concerned about their survivability, can use our Ultrablack™ bulls in their breeding programme as an option. Additionally, for many northern herds, traditional Brangus bulls contain too much Brahman content for the feedlots. We believe that our Ultrablack™ bulls and breeding programme will solve both of these issues and provide our clients with another option to market their cattle. Talk to us about how to use these tropically adapted black bulls in your breeding programme. |
